In celebration of World Skyscraper Day, readers of Dezeen have crowned Dubai's One Za'abeel as their favorite skyscraper of the past year. Designed by Japanese firm Nikken Sekkei, this dramatic structure features two towers connected by a stunning 230-meter skybridge, known as The Link. With over 1,500 votes, One Za'abeel took the top spot, receiving 26% of the votes.
A New Landmark in Dubai
Standing 305 meters tall, One Za'abeel isn't just about height. The Link, suspended 100 meters above a major highway, boasts the world’s longest cantilever, extending 67.5 meters towards the Arabian Gulf. The structure even includes a massive infinity pool, adding to its allure.
Despite its grandeur, Nikken Sekkei’s goal was simplicity. One Za'abeel offers a mix of luxury apartments, hotels, offices, retail, and dining spaces, all contributing to Dubai’s unique skyline.
Coming in second with 19% of the votes was The Spiral in New York, designed by Danish studio BIG. This 314-meter supertall tower is known for its outdoor terraces that wrap around each floor, providing green spaces for all tenants.
