Dubai Plans to Launch National University of Dubai with Dh4.5 Billion Investment to Lead Future Generations

Dubai’s Initiative for Global Excellence with an Emirati Identity

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has announced plans to establish the National University of Dubai, a new institution with a distinct Emirati identity. The project will launch with an investment of Dh4.5 billion ($1.22 billion) and aims to be among the world’s top 50 young universities within the coming 10 years.

Sheikh Mohammed shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the university’s role in preparing future generations with the skills to navigate a rapidly changing world. He described the institution as "more than just a university," but a symbol of the future, with specialized academic programs focused on innovation and research.

"This university will be a beacon of knowledge, producing Emirati leaders equipped with the latest sciences and values, ready to lead the future," he said. Sheikh Mohammed added that the goal is to build a foundation for knowledge that transcends borders, nurturing youth and driving the country’s development.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, was named supreme president of the university, with Maktoum bin Mohammed as his deputy, and Ahmed bin Saeed as chairman of the board of trustees. Sheikh Hamdan highlighted that the university will empower young talents, driving innovation, research, and Dubai’s continued growth.

Additionally, this announcement aligns with new initiatives to assess and rank UAE universities, ensuring they compete internationally based on teaching quality, research, and overall performance.
